Coffee Varieties
☕ How Many Coffee Varieties Exist?
There are 120+ coffee species in the world 🌍 — but most of the coffee we drink comes from just a few important ones.
🌱 Arabica (Coffea arabica)
• About 60–70% of global coffee production
• Known for smooth, complex, and aromatic flavors
• Grown mainly at higher altitudes
🌿 Robusta (Coffea canephora)
• Around 30–40% of global production
• Stronger, more bitter taste
• Contains almost twice the caffeine of Arabica
• Common in espresso blends and instant coffee
✨ Gesha (Geisha) – a famous Arabica variety
• Originated in Ethiopia and made famous in Panama
• Known for floral, jasmine, citrus, and tea-like flavors
• One of the most expensive and sought-after coffees in the world
🌳 Other rare species:
• Liberica – bold, smoky, floral profile
• Excelsa – fruity and tart notes
Even though there are 100+ coffee species, just a few varieties create the incredible range of flavors in your daily cup ☕
