Decaffeinated coffee methods
☕️ Decaf Coffee: How Do They Remove the Caffeine?
Ever wondered how your favorite decaf still tastes like coffee… without the buzz? Here’s a quick breakdown 👇
🔬 1. Swiss Water Process/Water Process
Uses only water, temperature, and time to gently remove caffeine. No chemicals — just science and filtration! 💧
🌱 2. CO₂ Process
Carbon dioxide acts like a magnet for caffeine, pulling it out while keeping the flavor intact. Super high-tech!
🧪 3. Solvent-Based Methods
Method uses food-safe solvents (like ethyl acetate) to dissolve and remove caffeine. Safe, regulated, and widely used.
⚖️ Is Decaf 100% Caffeine-Free?
Not quite — most decaf still has a tiny amount (about 2–5 mg per cup vs. 80–100 mg in regular coffee).
👀 Bottom line:
Decaf = same coffee experience, just way less caffeine. Perfect for late nights or sensitive caffeine drinkers!
I know not everyone can drink caffeinated coffee. When buying decaf green coffee beans to roast I will only purchase Swiss Water Process or Water Process green beans.
